I’d made my original blog, “Moments of Unexpected Beauty,” to record profoundly moving moments that I think I’ll remember but then, despite the best of intentions, forget. After I’d started that blog, I began interviewing Naomi Kimball Harris, my 93-year-old grandmother, and was fascinated by the story that emerged. I’d heard bits and pieces of her tale before, but it’s only now that I’m approaching my interviews with her as a writer that I’m realizing what a truly epic life she’s led; her story would make an excellent novel. I started posting information about my grandmother on my original blog, but now I’m going to try keeping a separate one dedicated to her story.
